The Jazz of Dudley Moore

The Jazz of Dudley Moore

Sat Feb 12 19:30:00 2022

Saturday 12th February 7:30pm at the Glebe Field Centre

Well known as a beloved comic actor perhaps fewer know about Dudley Moore, pianist and composer - appearing in late night sessions at Peter Cook’s Establishment Club in 1960s Soho, on TV appearances, on recordings, and with big bands.

‘I can’t imagine not having music in my life, playing for myself or for other people. If I was asked, ‘Which would you give up?’, I’d have to say acting.’ Dudley Moore

In this vibrant, sophisticated and moving homage, the Chris Ingham Trio honour this prematurely lost and sadly missed jazz hero with delightful music, spiced with gentle anecdote and insight, this is an evening of intimate and heartfelt pleasure.

Some pieces are quintessential expressions of the bright, optimistic, swinging 60s, others are deeply poignant, personal expressions of a darker, more complex world. Sometimes there is a unique and bittersweet mix of the two.

Ma Bessies Prohibition Party

Ma Bessies Prohibition Party

Sat Mar 19 19:30:00 2022

Saturday 19th March 7:30pm at the Glebe Field Centre

Take a trip back to Prohibition-era America with Ma Bessie & The Pigfoot Band. This show is an incredible time capsule and brings the very best of 20s/30s blues and jazz to the present day, focusing on the life and musical canon of the late, great Empress of Blues herself, Bessie Smith. All bootleggers, gangsters and molls are most welcome.

Led by Julia Titus and her impressive vocal range, the troupe offer a potted history of sorts, chronicling the life of Bessie Smith.

As the performance is set around the prohibition era and beyond, every player in the group sounds and looks the part and audience members are more than welcome to join in by dressing up.

★★★★★ ‘It’s safe to say that an evening with Ma Bessie & The Pig Foot Band proves that jazz is good for the soul.’ Get Reading

Bonfire Radicals

Bonfire Radicals

Sat Apr 30 19:30:00 2022

Saturday 30th April 7:30pm at the Glebe Field Centre

‘Quite staggeringly special. On this evidence, Bonfire Radicals are quite a discovery - grab the chance to go see them live.’ Fatea Magazine

Birmingham-based Bonfire Radicals have emerged from the folk/ world scene with a fresh musical approach and a host of engaging traditional and original material.

Probably unlike anything you’ve heard before, they draw on many eclectic influences for their sound - a fusion of medieval melodies, jazz-tinged swing, folk-rock, klezmer and all points in between - and go from pyrotechnic folk-rock to delicate unaccompanied singing.

Plentifully melodic and richly rhythmic, they weave together emotive vocals and free-ranging classical recorder, clarinet and fiddle over a pulsating rhythm mix of guitar, bass and drums.

Known for their highly spirited stage presence, the Bonfire Radicals’ own enthusiasm for their music is undeniable.
