Bush Gothic (AUS) in partnership with Crich Live and Live & Local present

Crich residents are invited to participate in an international music collaboration on the 14th and 15th of May that involves absolutely no zoom meetings and no internet connection. What will the people of Crich need?

A telephone.

And a story.

British organisation Live & Local invited Australian post-modern folk band Bush Gothic to imagine a collaborative art piece. Live and Local would then match them up with a suitable village. Crich was the lucky village and this is what Bush Gothic have dreamed up:

Got something to say?

Been keeping a secret?

or maybe you have some delicious gossip?

We are listening and recording. Your cousins over the seas at the Bush Telegraph in Australia have been comissioned to set up a phone line direct from Crich to Melbourne. This phoneline has a recording device attached. Bush Telegraph want you to call this telephone line and tell them stories from your village, stories from your heart. Your words will be recorded (and maybe reordered) then turned into a sound art piece. This will be posted back to Crich on a compact disc ready for you to play.

And what is a sound art piece? It’s just a fancy way of saying we put stories and music together.

What is the phone number?

When to call?

Friday 14th & Saturday 15th May 9am - 12 noon

Lines and Rhymes

Lines and Rhymes

Fri May 14 09:00:00 2021

Art Share Crich, formed in 2020 to encourage everyday creativity for people who live and work in the Crich Area, has been encouraging people to turn their hand to writing this spring.

Following on from the huge success of the Autumn Community Art Sharing, held at The Glebe Centre in Crich last October, the group have created the Rhymes and Lines project to give people an outlet for writing about subjects that matter to them and in turn, sharing these with the local community.

Clare Limb from Art Share Crich has been collating the poems throughout the Spring says ‘it has been truly inspiring to read all the poems and stories sent to me from a wide range of contributors from the Crich Area. These include children from Crich Junior School and members and volunteers from the Crich Luncheon Club, who have had inspirational poetry readings online from Martyn Offord as well as reading their own poems to each other’.

Submissions include a poem about a pig that flies, an introduction to a gothic story and a poem about the effects of coronavirus on the community.

The sharing will take place between 14  -  16 May In the windows of The Old Black Swan pub on Bowns Hill, Crich.

Art Share Crich would like to express their thanks to everyone who has supported the project in the Crich Area, and a special thank you goes to Rachel and Steve Palin from The Old Black Swan, who kindly agreed to host the sharing prior to the pub opening on 20th May.
